In 1965, four local institutions namely Vancouver Vocational Institute, Vancouver School of Art,
Vancouver School Board’s Night School and the King Edward Senior Matriculation Education Centre
collaborated to form the largest and oldest community college in Vancouver, the Vancouver
Community College. The college offers 78 certificate, 28 diploma and 3 bachelor’s degree
programs in both full-time and part-time mode in subjects ranging from design, makeup, baking,

independent university tag in 1992. A primarily undergraduate university, Nipissing University

Thompson Rivers University’s 250-acre main campus in Kamloops is situated on McGill Road in the
city’s southwest Sahali area, overlooking the junction of the North and South Thompson rivers
from which the university takes its name. The campus has 40 acres of gardens and the largest
arboretum in BC’s interior. Residences provide on-campus housing for 880 students. Kamloops, a
small city of around 90,000 people, is located in the semi-arid grasslands of the

Dr. Bruce Damer TRU alumnus and multidisciplinary scientist Dr. Bruce Damer has dedicated his
career to the exploration of two fundamental questions: how the first living cells originated;
and how to provide a viable path for expansion of human civilization beyond Earth. His curiosity
in how life originated has led him to study diverse disciplines from computer science and
physics to biology and chemistry.

Pat O’Brien is recognized as a member of TRU’s and Kamloops community who has gone above and
beyond in contributing to the success of TRU students. Pat O’Brien has been a name synonymous
with TRU Athletics since the inception of Cariboo College in 1970 when he was hired as one of
the original staff members. As the first-ever athletic director, he was the driving force behind

Olds College was established in 1913 as a public post-secondary institution in Olds, Alberta.
Previously when the college was established, it was known as Olds Agricultural College, but in
1970, the name was changed to Olds College. The main focus of the college is to impart education
to its students in the agriculture field; hence the former name of the college is Olds
Agriculture college. The college has two campuses. The main campus situated in Olds is over 2000
acres of landmass and accommodates most of the newly enrolled students and the second campus is
in Calgary. Olds College offers over 30 programs which are certificate programs, diploma, and
bachelor’s degree programs. The Government of Alberta authorizes all the programs.

Campus Life
The Olds college annually enrols over 1300 students with nearly 100 academic staff members
available to teach them. There is a theatre located on the campus of the college called the
Trans-Canada theatre which was opened in 2008. It can house up to 350 people at once to conduct
dramas, concerts and other functions. The library of the college is situated in the Library
Research Commons which has an alumni centre, student association office, e-learning centre, and
botanic gardens too. Olds College has its applied research division called the Olds College
Centre for Innovation. The research that is carried out here is on composting technology,
environmental biology, natural fibres and more. The Olds College Centre for Innovation also has
partnerships with institutions like Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre and Alberta Turfgrass
research foundation. The college’s scholarship and bursaries are valued over $500,000. The
Government of Canada sponsors these scholarships. Olds College’s athletic team is called Olds

The College of the Rockies is a community college funded by the public in Canada, situated in the
southeast end of British Columbia. As the name of the college, its location is embedded between
the rocky mountain trenches and significant valleys flowing in between. Its significant
ecological environment brings students to learn with an active lifestyle. The Rockies, has its
main campus in Cranbrook, with other campus locations in Creston, Fernie, Golden, Invermere, and
Kimberley. With the delivery mode blended both in-class and online along with low tuition fees
for international students, it gives the student to explore and enhance their skills. The
college has courses in different areas of study like administrative studies, university studies,
health, fire services, adult basic education, child youth and family studies, tourism, computer
technology, and trades.

We serve a regional population of close to 83,000 people, guided by our Mission, Vision, and
Values, and through the leadership of our President and Board of Governors. Each year, we
provide instruction in a wide variety of programs to approximately 2100 full-time equivalent
(FTE) students, including close to 200 international (FTE) students from more than 30 countries.

Our commitment to providing relevant and quality education is unwavering. Our state of the art
campuses and facilities are meeting the East Kootenay’s steadily growing demand for skilled
workers and employees.

Cranbrook is home to two campuses: Our main campus houses the majority of our administrative
departments and student services, and our Gold Creek campus offers a variety of trades programs.

The programs, courses, and services offered by our five regional campuses are as diverse as the
communities and people they serve. A few have their own “signature” programs – something unique
and special – and most provide courses in Adult Basic Education.

All of our campuses respond to the needs of their communities by offering continuing education
courses and access to online learning.
